OCTET SO-&-SO

About OCTET

In science, the Octet Rule dictates that atoms reach their most stable state when their valence shells are populated by eight electrons. This atomic equilibrium finds its physical map in the Eightfold Way—a geometric arrangement that organizes the chaotic subatomic world into a symmetrical, eight-point network.

This concept, first encountered in Edward Frenkel’s Love and Math, remained dormant until it surfaced as the structural catalyst for the Octet typeface—an unannounced connection that happened while I was cooking scrambled eggs, half-asleep due to a lack of caffeine, on a weekend morning.

The characters are built upon a rigid Octagonal Chassis, which shifts into the hexagonal honeycomb of the Eightfold Way in the letter Q. This structural duality utilizes a hybrid serif system to anchor the geometry; markers are positioned at the precise entry and exit points of each glyph—horizontal, vertical, and diagonal—captured through tight kerning and specific structural ligatures.

A grounded typeface engineered for high-impact branding, technical manifestos, and anything in between.

Enjoy the process and eggs.
